Most of you who are reading this, obviously know about extremely beautiful and natural wonder Plitvice, place with waterfalls and lakes in Croatia. If you don’t know, you will find out now. Plitvice Lakes National Park is one of the oldest national parks in Southeast Europe and the largest national park in Croatia. In 1979, Plitvice Lakes National Park was added to the UNESCO World Heritage register.
WINTER AT PLITVICE
Plitvice are the most visited in summer, because people go to the Croatian cost and they stop to see Plitvice. Not even many Croatian go to Plitvice on winter. People think that roads are not viable, you can’t walk because of snow and waterfalls are frozen. Roads are clear, you can walk on the tracks and waterfalls are even more beautiful when they are frozen. Great advantage to visit Plitvice is also price of the ticket at winter. Ticket is only 35 Croatian kuna which is approx. $5 / €4,70 and on summer ticket is 180 Croatian kuna or approx. $25 / €24. You can see the difference, but the reason is because on winter you can only visit The Lower Lakes and The Great Waterfall. The Upper Lakes are closed, sightseeing train and electro-boat do not operate.
CHOOSE YOUR PATH
If you are arriving for the first time, go into the information office. Ask the lady who works there to explain where should you go and what path to choose. She will recommend you the safest way and tell what parts are opened for visitors. Tracks are little bit slippery, but nothing to worry, you should only walk slower than usual. As for the opened part of the Plitvice, I think that it is more than enough on winter, since it is cold and you need more time to walk on the ice and snow. To pass through The Lower Lakes, you will need hour or two, depends on you speed.
TRY AND EXPLORE
I would like to encourage you to try and visit Plitvice on winter also, not only on summer. Just dress warm and bring your coffee and sandwich, because restaurants and coffee bar are working only on entrance. Parking for cars is free on winter. As you can see on my picture gallery, Plitvice Lakes look amazing when they are frozen and covered with snow.
