Since I am a big fan of coffee and often spend time in the coffee bar. This is my list of the top 10 coffee bars in Zagreb. These are some of the most popular and newest cafés in my personal opinion. Most of them differ from the competition by their design, offer and quality. Instagram’s growing popularity has brought some new trends, so the caterers took advantage of this opportunity. The coffee bars are more interesting for Instagram pictures and the offer is more imaginative. For example, there are new and innovative drinks, various snacks and sweets, as well as alcoholic drinks.
Zagreb is now a tourist destination that offers the world’s newest trends in catering. As i wrote on my previous post, I will explore my city as a tourist and bring to you what I find. The coffee bars in Zagreb that impressed me especially, listed in alphabetical order are:
1. A most unusual garden
One of the nicest coffee bars in Zagreb is located in Horvaćanska street, near the student dorm Stjepan Radić. As the name says, A most unusual garden is a beautiful garden surrounded by plants. It’s a place where you can enjoy a drink in a cozy atmosphere. Real name of the bar is Hendrick’s most unusual garden. So, it’s clear that the main specialty is gin and tonic. The offer also makes a wide selection of fresh natural juices, coffee, tea or craft beer.
The biggest sensation of the bar is a tree house in the central part of the garden terrace. The tree house is not just for decoration. You can also sit there and enjoy the view while drinking your favorite beverage. Interior design is as if you’ve got into an art studio from the past. It also feels like you’re in the living room. The most unusual garden is a totally different place in town. It is perfect for relaxing, especially on sunny and hot days.
Botaničar (The botanist) is on the Marko Marulić Square, near the Botanical Garden. The name clearly explains the layout of the place and the location. The coffee bar is full of plants and vintage items, such as old shelves and vases. They used laboratory accessories as the lamps. It all started as an association of artists, as one of the owners is a photographer and an artist.
The owners wanted a gallery where various art exhibitions will take place. They connected the art gallery with a bar and made a perfect place for art lovers to hang out. The place has very relaxed atmosphere and warmth. With the wide range of coffee, tea and other drinks, there is definitely a reason to visit this place. A lot of people recognized that and they fell in love with Botaničar. It soon became one of the favorite places to drink coffee in the city.
3. Kaptol Boutique Cinema
A new and completely different cinema in Zagreb is located in the Kaptol Center. Kaptol Boutique Cinema offers a different experience of visiting a cinema. The aim of the boutique cinema is to encourage people on a new experience. The goal is to show that cinema is not only for young people watching the movie with popcorn. It is the whole experience for people of all ages. Kaptol Boutique Cinema raises cinema to a higher cultural level. You have a feeling that you are going to theater and not to the cinema. Next to the cinema hall there is a beautifully designed bar where you can sit for hours. The design of the coffee bar reminds of the old Hoollywood. It gives the whole movie atmosphere. The space is luxurious and comfortable. The beverage list is extremely wide.
Now you can enjoy the cinema with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the bar. The tickets include drinks at the Cinema Boutique bar. There is also a bright and pleasant garden terrace where smoking is permitted. The cinema offers a wide selection of 9 types of popcorn and gluten free snacks. You can also rent the place for various events and children birthdays. For a special experience of cinema and a pleasant drink at the bar, be sure to visit Boutique Cinema. It is the only cinema of this kind in Croatia.
Finjak is a refined and small coffee bar. It hides in the courtyard of Vlaška Street on number 78. The space is quite small, but it gives it a special charm. It is full of antiques, from the frames on the wall and chandeliers to the furniture and pillows. Since owners also have an antique shop, the design of the coffee bar is not surprising. The place is full of details and every detail is tasteless, as if it belonged there.
Finjak offers a large selection of coffee and French teas, as well as numerous other drinks. There is also very interesting pottery in which the waiter will get serve your drink. If you want a royal and historical feeling when drinking coffee or tea, go to Finjak café.
6. Greenery Procaffe
The Greenery Procaffe is another coffee bar that has achieved great popularity in the short term. It is located in the Vukovarska Street on a number 52e. Greenery gained its popularity on Instagram because of the innovative idea of the owner and a beautiful design.
Namely, the specialty of this place is a coffee with a picture or a note on it. You can choose whatever text or image you want and the waiter will bring it to you printed on coffee. All you have to do is download the app and enter the selected image into the offered box.
You create the order and after a few seconds the waiter will see it on his device. He will print your design on the edible paper and place it on a milk foam. Greenery is distinguished by its minimalist and open design, and the specialty is the wooden swing that is often photographed. If you go to Greenery to get coffee with a note, you will have to pay 15 Croatian Kuna (2€). The price of the plain coffee is 11 Croatian Kuna (1,5€).
Hugo’s is a new cafe on the Jarun Road, next to the sports complex Mladost and the student dorm. The coffee bar is beautifully designed. You can enjoy there in a daily coffee, but also in a night out. Impressive details, such as fresco of the rearing horses or the flowers on the wall, are a source of admiration. The space looks modern and luxurious, and its spaciousness greatly contributes to it.
The Hugo’s bar is a café where you will feel glamorous even when drinking coffee. A night out can complete that feeling. The prices are extremely affordable, which is the advantage for the student budget. Guests are predominantly young people from nearby student dorms as well as the athletes. If you want to relax and enjoy the ambience, visit Hugo’s Bar on Jarun.
Magnolia is the name of the world famous pastry franchise. It’s no wonder it has developed a chain of pastries of the same name in Croatia. They have pastry shops on three locations in Zagreb. The first location is in the Trešnjevka neighborhood. The second is on the Radnička Street and the most famous location is in Gundulićeva Street. All the stores attract visitors with their specific interior design. Their design was inspired by the pastry and cakes from Magnolia, since it’s all in the same sweet and colored style.
Magnolia offers many traditional pastries and cakes. They are prepared in a modern way with an attractive look. For example, you can find cookies in the form of a unicorn, a green tea cake or a praline cake. Their sweets can also be ordered for a special occasions such as weddings, christenings or birthdays. When you want to have coffee and sweeten your day, choose one of the cafés and enjoy it.
The program bar is an interesting café located on Martićeva street. What makes it interesting is the conceptual design and numerous artistic installations. For example, the legs of the table are actually shovels. You can read a price list on the concrete trowels. In the smoking part of the cafe, branches are covering the ceiling and the walls.
Every corner of the bar is different and every look reveals a new and interesting element. The coffee shop offers a variety of coffee types. You can order Lavazza Super Cream, 100% Arabica or a handpicked coffee from Ethiopia. Along with coffee, there is a large selection of teas, wines and craft beers.
The Velvet café is a cozy bar on Dežmanova Street in Tuškanac neighborhood. This quiet street is a popular coffee bar destination from the past.
There are the two parts of the Velvet café, light and dark. The purpose of the light part is daily coffee drinking and reading. The dark part intention is for evening socializing and intimacy. So, you can choose a place for yourself depending on your mood.
You can choose to drink a cup of coffee, tea or some of the aperitifs. The Velvet also has a beautiful terrace, full of plants and flowers. Smokers can retreat there and enjoy the fresh air. With hot and cold drinks, Velvet also offers a variety of sweets and snacks. It all complements the offer and coffee routine.out new
